Sports Malta awards
Sports Malta awards coming up , let’s see what our nominee managed in 2019 and what she was nominated for..
Sarah Chouhal- 16 years
Awarded Outstanding Athlete Of The Year in 2017 and 2018.
In 2019..
Breaking the u18 national record in hammer throw. Threw 51.25m, making her the first Maltese female to surpass the 50m mark in this event. This throw also ranked her #6 in the u18 rankings in Canada, definitely proving the value of the result. Sarah has a dual citizenship, she was born in Canada making her eligible to be in these rankings. This throw was also the throw that made her national champion in the U18 hammer throw, besides also being the national champion in the u18 400m. A combination worth noticing. Not too many throw that far and also run fast.
Two other huge feats in 2019 were the COJI and FISEC games. In the COJI games, she won four medals ; gold in hammer throw (defending her title), silver in the Swedish Relay, bronze in the 400m and bronze in the 800m. In the FISEC games, she took home silver in the mixed Swedish Relay, bronze in the 400m and bronze in the 4x100m relay.
Another success last year was her forming a part of the Maltese Senior European Team Championships 2nd League contingent. She ran the 4x400m relay team as the 3rd leg. This team clocked a very good result making a better time than the previous team in previous edition. Albeit being the youngest, she did a great job!.
In 2019, she has been awarded the Athlete of the Year award by the MAAA and now finalist for the SportMalta Awards happening this Saturday.
Good luck 👊we are proud of you 👏
